As a general rule, confirmation is the journey of learning and growth that takes a young person from the “kid’s club” to the “adult’s club.” Students typically spend roughly two to three years learning about the Old Testament of the Bible, the New Testament of the Bible, and Martin Luther’s Small Catechism. The Small Catechism covers the basics of the faith: The Ten Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, The Apostle’s Creed, Baptism, and Holy Communion. At the completion of this period of learning in a service titled “Affirmation of Baptism,” we celebrate together as these youth complete one journey and begin another – making promises to God to grow in their faith and to share God’s love for a lifetime.
